Quick response

Quick response refers to ordering systems that react extremely rapidly to customer inquiries and customer requests. Such systems are generally computer based and use item-specific barcode systems. They are closely oriented on demand and customers and, ideally, should work in concert with demand.
The objective of quick response is, among other things, to reduce inventories and to improve planning of deliveries to warehouses and retail outlets. The system was created in the early 1980s in the U.S. textile industry. The effectiveness of quick response depends heavily on the predictability of relevant demand.
