Impressive gains and regional underdevelopment
The cultural, geographic and political diversity of Asia and the Pacific Rim poses special challenges for the development of efficient logistics systems. The differences are extreme. Japan, for instance, has been a highly developed country for decades, while portions of regions like China, India or the ASEAN are underdeveloped. But, the large growth rates, the vast expanses and the large populations of China and India are clear indicators of these countries’ enormous potential. The ASEAN countries have expanded their logistics infrastructure in recent years. Australia plays an important role primarily as an exporter of raw materials and agricultural products. A special logistics infrastructure is needed for these products.
